roman cieslewicz
Roman Cieslewicz was born in Lwow, Poland which is now known as Lviv, Ukraine. He was a Polish artist and photographer who became a neutralized French man. He attended the School of Artistic Industry in Lvov from 1943 - 1946 and then went to Krakow's Fine Arts Lycee in 1941. I like his work because it features a big image in the center, a bright coloured background that makes the image and writing stand out and big text. His work has an unusual tone to it, as what he produces can be hard to understand for example the image below with the word 'katastrofa' and the image below with the eyes that gradually reduce in size as you look from the top to the bottom are hard to understand and could be interpreted in a completely different way by different viewers which makes it slightly abstract. When I look at Roman Cieslewicz's work I get the impression that each individual piece has a hidden meaning, I think people from Poland would understand the message behind it or have more of an idea because the colours could symbolise something different in their counrty than others for example pink is seen as a feminine, nurturing colour colour but the images below with pink backgrounds do not relate. In addition to this people from Poland will understand what the writing in the images say and the writing could give the message away. Despite colours having different meanings in different countries and cultures, blue is asccoiated with authority, depression and holiness and in the image below with the blue background you could relate either of these things with it. The expression on his face looks negative, there's no positive bright colours which could suggest depression, the man is serious, holding something (possibly important) and has a star over his head which suggests he could have authority and the arms look like they are coming out of clowds and he has a star above his head which could link to heaven.
